Long time customer, first time reviewer. Been coming here when the Franciscan cut was under $30 and popcorn ceilings was in style (jk about the popcorn ceilings). I loved every time I've been here. They start you off with there homemade sourdough bread and butter, but don't eat to much because there portions are huge. Soup is good but there homemade thousand island sauce is the best I've ever had. Some say "it's slap your mama good". The main course is always the prime rib. They don't salt and pepper the crust before cooking, so you can taste all that glorious meat. The wait staff are really professional and take time to service your needs. The decor is 70's restaurant and adds to the vibe of the place.
Came here to celebrate my friends birthday. It was packed on a Sunday night. The food here is always delicious, the servers are friendly, and the ambiance is welcoming and comfortable. In the first room, you are greeted by the hostess, where they have a full bar and TVs for sports. The next rooms are mostly family dining. The prime rib is the go to here. The salad is really good and plentiful, I always get the fresh thousand island and a bake potato for my sides. As far as appetizers you really can't go wrong. My go to favorites are the fried zucchini and sautéed mushrooms! Quality is A+
The San Franciscan has been on my list of restaurants to try for quite some time. We finally tried it out on a weekday and I was surprised by a couple of things. First, I'm glad I made reservations since this place was packed for a Wednesday. Two, it looks like a small restaurant from the outside, but they actually have a lot of tables/seating inside and a full bar. The restaurant has a old school steakhouse feel to it. Red booth seating, wooden tables, popcorn ceilings. It does say on the menu that it's a restaurant and cocktail lounge and established in 1963. It's one of those restaurants that you hope never changes since the old school feel to it is a vibe. // FOOD // Entrees are served with either soup or salad and choice of: baked potato, steak fries fresh vegetables or rice pilaf. The soup option changes daily so that night it was corn chowder. We ordered the baked potato which comes with whipped butter, sour cream, and green onions on the side. PRIME RIB OF BEEF - au jus, horseradish, horseradish cream. Super tender and they cover it in au jus. Definitely one of the best prime ribs I've had before! RIBEYE STEAK - A solid piece of steak grilled to perfection. They also offer a bone-in option, but I went with the normal ribeye. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by The San Franciscan. The prime rib and ribeye both needed an additional sprinkle of salt and pepper for my personal taste, but everyone else liked it how it came out. I will definitely come back when I feel like some steak. Also, I would highly recommend making a reservation based off of how busy it was during my visit.
Prime rib at the San Franciscan in Torrance was something I wanted to try for a while and was able to when we were in the area at night time. This place for dinner was super packed and busy. We had to wait for a little while but it was worth the wait. Walking into this place it feels like you are back in the 1960's with the red booths. You rarely see this old-school style anymore. Came with a party of three and the guys ordered the prime rib while I got the rib eye. Overall the food was delicious and I would come here or even recommend it if you are in the area.
Went on a Sunday after a football game. The place was packed and I waited no more than 3 minutes for our party to be seated. The food is great, especially the prime rib. Get there, eat and leave with leftovers for the next day. Enjoy!
The San Franciscan is a gem that brings classic American dining to life in the best way possible. Walking into this restaurant/bar feels like stepping back in time, with cozy interiors, dim lighting, and an atmosphere that's rich with locals. The prime rib is the undeniable star here--juicy, perfectly cooked, and incredibly flavorful. It's the kind of dish you dream about long after your meal is over. Pair it with their cocktail or array of appetizers, and you've got an experience that feels both timeless and indulgent. Beyond the food, the ambiance is unbeatable. Live music and sports and gaming, adding a warm and nostalgic touch that brings people together. And if you're feeling bold, karaoke night is a must. It's an experience where patrons become part of the entertainment, creating a lively, friendly atmosphere that's hard to find elsewhere. The staff at The San Franciscan complete the experience with top-notch service and a welcoming vibe. If you're looking for a place to unwind, indulge, and make memories, The San Franciscan is the perfect spot.
Had a great Prime rib dinner last time in this place. Very old school looking place (popcorn ceilings, red round booths etc). The prime rib was super delicious (so tender and melt in my mouth). I ordered the smallest one they have called the house special but the portion was still huge. The meal came with the choice of house salad or soup of the day, either baked potato or steak fries and warmed sourdough bread with butter. That night I opted for their chicken noodles soup which was good as well. The cheesecake was a huge slice and yummy! The price is so reasonable for the amount and the quality of the food you get. I'll be returning in the future for sure!
Craving a good prime rib that doesn't cost an arm or a leg? Then this is that spot that you should check out. Now, I do have to say don't expect to have the best service because service was definitely not great. Very old school vibes inside. We brought our kids and other people also brought their kids as well. They charge a shared plate/splitting fee. Ordered: *Children's meal spaghetti - my kids didn't like it *Franciscan cut - ordered with a side of rice which no one in my family enjoyed. But the prime rib was perfect. The au jus sauce had just the right amount of flavor to it. *Diamond cut - ordered with a side of French fries which was ok. Again the prime rib and au jus sauce was perfect. *Crispy calamari fries - this was extremely tasty. definitely recommend and would get again. Overall, I would come back to get more prime rib and calamari. I also want to try the shrimp cocktails. Its a good spot to try if you are in the mood for prime rib. Its pretty spacious inside so they have room for small parties or big parties. And you don't need to dress up. People including us were dressed normally. This yelper would come back. Tips: *Small private parking lot. *Takes credit card. *Indoor seating only *Bar area with TV *Dimmed lighting inside *Takes reservations.
I could say The San Franciscan is an old-style prime rib / steakhouse, right down to the low lighting and red booths. But how can you call it retro when this is the way it's always been? The San Franciscan has been here since 1963. Speaking with someone during my visit, I'm told the third generation of family is now working the store. On this visit, I had the "house cut" prime rib. This serving is a one-half pound cut. With this meal, you have your choice of soup or salad. You also have your choice of potato (baked, fries, etc.). You even get a sizable loaf of sour dough bread. The price of this meal is $31.00. (With $3.10 tax, the total is $34.10--it's a good value.) There are a lot of places that are famous destinations for prime rib dinners (e.g. Lawry's in Beverly Hills and House of Prime Rib in San Francisco). But it is harder and harder to find a local restaurant where you can go and get a prime rib plate. And the quality of the meals here is always consistent. Note: My most recent meal took place on a Wednesday at about 7:45pm. I though because it was mid-week and later in the evening, it might be slower. I was surprised how crowded it was. Call ahead for reservations if you don't like to wait. This is a smaller sized restaurant, which adds to its charm.
I lived in Southbay long enough that I feel ashamed I didn't know about this place until now. I've driven by it more times than I can count, but I never bothered to see what it was. For the longest time, I thought it was a bar--don't know why. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the place is so charming, with a very old-school vibe. The dim interior, red booths, low sparkly popcorn ceiling, and the overall friendliness of the staff made us feel nostalgic and very welcomed. We both ordered the half-pound house special prime rib and left stuffed, with a small leftover for me. We got there around 4:15 PM on a Saturday and were surprised by how many tables were already occupied. By the time we left, pretty much the whole place was filled, so make a reservation or get there early.
